The Disability Standard 2009 Benchmark Report presents the overall results from 2009, drawing out the major themes. We look in detail at the scores on areas of strategic importance for employers and service providers. These include sharing responsibility for disability equality across the organisation and what can be achieved by making a business case. More orgaisations are improving accessibility, most notably in their recruitment and selection processes and progress has been made in getting senior management to value disabled people as customers.

We compare the performance of private and public sectors and note how the Public sector put greater emphasis on questions which relate to legal obligation. We also highlight how responsibility for disability equality needs to go beyond human resources and that more overall monitoring and evaluation needs to be undertaken throughout organisations.

Also noted are the emerging trends from 2005-2009 including the clear evidence that organisations that have taken part in more than one survey perform better then first-time benchmarkers. Finally there is a section on replicating success from the top performers as well as the top priorities for action.
