What can we learn from the best?
For many of us, the most powerful way to learn is by reading about how others have gone about implementing best practice on disability. From how to recruit and retain disabled people, to meeting the needs of disabled customers, the case studies shown here are real examples of best practice from the Disability Standard 2007 submission.
Evidence from Disability Standard 2007 shows that the top scoring employers clearly state their commitment to valuing disabled people as employees and are all working toward making their products and services accessible.
The top performers also understand the importance of developing disability confident behaviours. Their disability training covers the organisation’s legal obligations, policy expectations, the business and ethical case for disability, and the need to challenge assumptions and change behaviour. They have communication strategies to help build support for disability confidence and publicise their disability achievements internally and externally.
If you want to look at any of the case studies we gathered during the 2009 Disability Standard benchmark then please visit our main EFD website: http://www.efd.org.uk/media-centre/case-studies
All of the case studies were correct at the time of publication, but in this fast moving world where everything changes so quickly, we ask that before reproducing a case study, you first contact us to check: media@efd.org.uk
