Setting Goals on disability

Human Resources
- To provide all new staff with a staff handbook that sets out the general duty in respect of disability equality and include in induction training as part of the core competencies relating to Agenda for Change and the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF)

Property Services - That the development of new services/modernisation of services meet the needs of the disabled e.g. diagnostic centre at Cressex. Consultation with different stakeholder groups including disabled groups will be undertaken in the initial planning phase of any new service and included within the Business Case for establishing the new service.

Marketing (communications) - Interpretation and translation support is provided and a wide range of communication vehicles are used.

Service Development - The compilation of data sets showing health variations and hot spots for action across the region linked into health improvement and LDP. This will include health indicators relating to disabilities to inform health policy and planning including strategy around smoking cessation, mental health and health improvement programmes.

Public Services - To ensure that the Tackling Health Inequalities part of the Assurance Framework is met. This will have involved ensuring that services are accessible and acceptable to all disabled groups and that services are designed with the needs of the disabled in mind.

IT and website - That the PCT Equality Scheme which includes the DES will be accessible on PCT intranet and internet and that hard copies are available for key stakeholders in required formats e.g. large print, audio and plain English.

Training and Development - Integrated training within the mandatory training matrix to ensure all staff are aware of their responsibilities. This will be evidenced by their promotion of disability equality in all aspects of work.

Occupational Health - Develop close links with the Occupational Health department – partnership working to rehabilitate not only disabled staff currently employed by the PCT but also those seeking employment.

Procurement (Commissioning) - The service level agreements (SLAs) for all services commissioned by the PCT and primary care providers explicitly outline the requirements according to the Disability Discrimination Act to ensure that disability equality promotion is a core requirement, and that services meet the needs of the population served.
