The listening to disabled people award looks at how consultation is carried out, both internally and externally, how frequent it is and how the views of disabled people are fed back into policies and procedures.

Award winners:
British Library
Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS)
West Midlands Police

RBS because of their Disability Focus groups but also the way in which they reviewed their reasonable adjustment policy. British Library for the mix of quantitative and qualitative data and information they collect. West Midlands Police for the lengths they went to to consult when putting together their Disability Equality Scheme.

"It is the first time we have been involved in the Disability Standard and so this is just the beginning for us. The benchmark is the best management tool to have for giving a clear picture of where we are and what to do in terms of disability confidence and best practice. We now know how we measure up and what we can still do to deliver further improvements"
Diane Brown
British Library HR Diversity Business Partner

"There are good business, legal and ethical reasons for getting disability equality right. This is a key business for West Midlands Police, contributing to our vision of reducing crime and disorder and making our communities feel safer"
Emily Smith
West Midlands Police Diversity manager
