Why have the Disability Standard?

The Disability Standard is the world's only business led benchmark on disability. Designed in 2004 as a measurement framework that sets the benchmark for best practice on disability, and revised in 2011, its purpose and value remain true today.

EFD has 20 years experience in the field of disability. The Disability Standard has been designed in close consultation with our members, alongside our disabled associates and stakeholders. It offers organisations the reassurance that you have identified, and measured your good disability practice.

Measure your progress

The Disability Standard is a measurement tool that can be used to collect evidence of your work on disability. Its flexible design means it can retain information that can be added to year on year (even if people leave your organisation). The EFD evaluation provides external validation of progress and enables entry into each year's benchmark.

Benchmark with your sector

The EFD benchmark provides a snapshot of UK business performance on disability, providing sector analysis where appropriate. We are happy to facilitate sector participation and analysis. Global businesses can also contact us about  benchmarking their geographical divisions.

An overview of what works

The EFD benchmark analyses invaluable information about areas of progress and challenge for our members from the EFD evaluations. Where appropriate we will gather evidence that represents the position of our members and will use this to help commend or challenge public policy at the national or international level.

Motivate change

The Disability Standard clearly identifies areas of strength and weakness. An EFD evaluation allows you to measure progress against the Disability Standard and your peers or competitors. It also provides an ideal opportunity for gathering the evidence to set new initiatives in motion.

Demonstrate your investment

The Disability Standard offers a number of reports that demonstrate your progress to others within your organisation. The self assessment report provides an overview of your perception of how you are doing on disability. Your EFD evaluation report offers tailored feedback about your submission and will score your performance against the Disability Standard. The individual benchmark report details your organisation's scores against those of the rest of the benchmark. A full benchmark report providing an overview of all the benchmark trends will also be available.

Celebrate good performance

The EFD benchmark identifies and celebrate best practice. We will release the top 10 participants in rank order and EFD awards will be presented linked to areas of success within the Disability Standard assessment. Any organisation scoring over 70% will be entitled to use a bronze, silver or gold Disability Standard logo as appropriate.
